Does your key fob need programming?
- New key fob — a new or replacement remote usually has to be programmed before it works with your car.
- Fob stopped working — the cause can be the battery, the remote, the programming or the fob itself.
- Key not detected — the smart key may need inspection, replacement or reprogramming.
- Buttons don't work — lock, unlock, trunk or panic buttons stop when the remote is damaged or not programmed.
Programming or replacement?
| Programming is enough when | Replacement is needed when |
|---|---|
| You have a new, compatible fob | The fob is damaged or the case is cracked |
| The fob isn't connected to the car yet | Buttons or the circuit board are broken |
| You need a spare programmed | The fob is lost |
| The fob is in good physical condition | The fob isn't compatible with your car |
Keys we program

Transponder (chip) keys, remote head keys and flip keys, key fobs, push-to-start smart keys and Fobik keys (used on some Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Mercedes-Benz vehicles) — for all makes except Tesla, Lucid and Polestar.
How it works
- Call or request a quote with your location and the car's year, make and model.
- We confirm the key type, the service and the price.
- A technician comes to you with programming equipment.
- We program the fob and test every button and the start before we leave.
A dealer typically charges $450–$1,200 for a smart key and may need the car towed in. We come to you and are often about half the dealer's price.
