Subaru models we make keys for include: Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, Impreza, Legacy, Ascent, WRX — and more. Tell us the year and model and we confirm.
Subaru keys we make
- Transponder keys — chip keys for older Outback, Forester, Legacy and Impreza models, often carried alongside a separate remote.
- Remote head keys — a one-piece key with lock and unlock buttons, used on many turn-key Subarus from the 2010s on, including base Crosstrek and Impreza trims.
- Keyless Access fobs (push-to-start) — on higher trims of the Outback, Forester, Legacy, Crosstrek and Ascent, and on more trims of newer models.
- Emergency blades — the metal key inside each Keyless Access fob, cut to open your door when the fob battery dies.
Common Subaru key calls
Key lost at the beach or boat ramp. Subarus go where keys get lost — sand, surf and kayak launches. We come to the car wherever it's parked and make a working key there, so you aren't stuck arranging a tow from the beach lot.
Worn-out remote head key. On turn-key Crosstrek, Impreza and Forester models, the rubber buttons and key head wear through with daily use. We program a new remote head key and cut it to your ignition, so the lock buttons work again.
Aftermarket remote starter installed. If your Subaru has an add-on remote start system, a new key may also need to be linked to that module. Tell us when you call so we can plan for it.
Why not the Subaru dealer?
The dealer needs your Subaru in its service drive, so with no working key you pay for a tow — and all-wheel-drive Subarus generally need a flatbed rather than a two-wheel tow. Then come the appointment and possibly a wait for the key. We bring keys and programming equipment to your driveway or parking lot, finish in one visit for most models, and are often about half the dealer's price.
